S T U D I O L I F E

For many years I felt that a portfolio of my work and only my work was all that matters, but of course this is quite naive! When investing in someone’s services for such a special event, it’s vital that you feel comfortable and confident in your choice of designer! With some clients I never actually get to meet you face to face, so I wanted to introduce myself; to show you the face behind the brand and give an insight in to my experience, the design process and the studio in which your paper pretties are produced. If we chat on the phone during our working together this is the face getting carried away in all things wedding related and enthusiastically waffling at you! (sorry!)

Designing wedding stationery has grown to be a beautiful career that I am very proud of, I’d love to be able to say that this is all I’ve ever wanted to do, but in reality it’s a professional that I discovered by luck!

I studied Lingerie design and Surface Pattern design and through these it became apparent that I completely obsess over details and adore texture. My work is always reflecting this. I thought I would become a designer of lingerie fabrics as I love the delicacy and intricacy of them. But it was when I worked on a project with an established stationery designer that I fell in love with this work. Combining botanical illustrations with hand lettering, or experimenting with fonts, layouts and then being consumed with ideas for finishes etc, this industry where every little detail matters felt like home for me!

One of my favourite parts of the design process is the initial stage spent at my desking drawing! Every illustration is unique for each bespoke couple, and fitting for their story. These illustrations are then used for fine art print, or most commonly for the production of the plates needed for the press. Each and every piece is printed by hand, using our very own press from our home studio based in Suffolk, England.

As photogenic as some are, the invitations need to be seen to be fully appreciated. The hot foiled gold tempting the magpie in us all, and then the print techniques such as blind debossing (indention in to the paper without foil or ink) and embossing (a raised feature in the paper) mean these pieces are so tactile, they genuinely give a luxurious first impression to your guests. Experimenting with these techniques is my other great passion. I love to explore new outcomes, always striving to create treasured, unique keepsakes for your day!

Just a little, but important note on sustainability……

You may notice throughout all text I talk about paper products. I prefer to work with cotton papers that have been recycled, or can you believe you can even use paper now that has been recycled from old coffee cups!! I love this, and I am always trying to do my bit for our planet. Any waste from the studio is recycled and any pieces that cannot be recycled such as press plates are often gifted to the couples as further keepsakes, (if the plates are in good and safe condition to do so!) I have also enjoyed creating products using responsibly sourced woods and have loved that these make treasured display pieces. I do not work with acrylic products, or any other unrecyclable plastics! I strongly believe that your wedding stationery should be beautiful, timeless heirlooms to pass down, but not pieces of plastic that will outlive us all, so please understand that if this is a definite vision I will not be suited to your project. Fingers crossed our values align and we will be a perfect match!! I look forward to hearing from you!
